A Level Art Trip to the Barbican

Art Trips

On Friday 5 December, Lower 6 and Upper 6 A Level Art students visited the Barbican to see two major exhibitions: Dirty Looks: Desire and Decay in Fashion and Encounters: Giacometti × Mona Hatoum. Both shows offered rich visual and conceptual material, but Dirty Looks was a particular highlight, with its strong textiles focus and inventive use of distressed, weathered and re-imagined garments. Students were especially captivated by Hussein Chalayan’s work, which proved to be a standout source of inspiration for current and future projects.

Alongside gathering valuable research, students also had the chance to experience the Barbican’s iconic brutalist architecture, adding another layer of cultural enrichment to the day. Overall, the trip was hugely rewarding, sparking new ideas and giving students fresh momentum in their creative studies.
