Students enjoyed a memorable literary trip to Jane Austen's House and Chawton House as part of their English studies on Jane Austen.

Set in the picturesque village of Chawton, the visit gave students the opportunity to deepen their understanding of Austen’s life, works, and the historical context behind some of her most celebrated novels.

Throughout the day, students explored the house where Austen lived during the final eight years of her life after Chawton Cottage was gifted to Jane, her sister Cassandra, and their mother by Edward Austen Knight. It was during this important period that Austen published Sense and Sensibility and Pride and Prejudice, while also writing Mansfield Park, Emma, and Persuasion.

Students took part in fascinating guided tours and talks at both sites, learning more about Austen’s writing process, family life, and lasting literary influence. The experience allowed students to connect their classroom studies with the real locations that shaped Austen’s work and legacy.

One of the highlights of the trip was a Regency dancing workshop at Chawton House, where students embraced the atmosphere of the period through traditional dancing and costume dress-up, bringing the world of Austen vividly to life.

The trip provided a valuable and engaging extension to students’ English studies, combining literature, history, and hands-on learning in a truly inspiring setting.
