French Exchange Trips

Four of our Lower 6 students recently took part an inspiring and immersive French exchange, combining language learning with real-world teaching experience in France.

Partnering with a school in Fougères, near Rennes in north-west France, the students were paired with French counterparts and undertook a unique work experience placement in local primary schools. Supporting classes from Reception through to Year 5, they played an active role as teaching assistants, helping young pupils develop their English skills.

Their time abroad extended beyond the classroom, with opportunities to explore the rich culture and history of the region. A highlight of the trip was a visit to the iconic Mont Saint-Michel, offering a memorable glimpse into one of France’s most celebrated landmarks.

The exchange continues after Easter, when their French partners will travel to England to take part in the reciprocal programme. During their stay, they will gain their own classroom experience, supporting the teaching of French to young children in local primary schools.

The experience has been hugely rewarding for all involved. Our students returned with greater confidence, significantly improved language skills, and lasting memories - already eager for the chance to take part in another exchange.
