QAS Summer Society Award: Inspiring Experiences Beyond the Classroom

Sixth Form Enrichment

At QAS, Sixth Form students have the opportunity to take part in a wide range of enriching summer experiences through the QAS Summer Society Award, which provides financial support for activities that enhance both academic study and personal development.

Last year, seven students from the current Upper Sixth were awarded funding and recently presented their experiences to Lower Sixth students, offering an inspiring insight into how the award can be used.

Their experiences were diverse and ambitious. Some explored university life through residential programmes at Bath and Nottingham Trent, gaining valuable insight into higher education. Others pursued creative and artistic interests, including an intensive creative writing course and participation in Cello Dynamo 25.

Several students used the award to explore potential career pathways. One attended a law preparation programme, while another gained experience through a medical mentoring summer school. Meanwhile, one student undertook a remarkable social impact trip to Zambia, contributing to sustainable improvements in an orphanage while developing independence, empathy, and practical skills. Another student explored the world of media through a TV presenting course, gaining hands-on experience in journalism and production.

Collectively, these experiences highlight the breadth of opportunities made possible by the award. Beyond developing subject knowledge, students spoke about increased confidence, new friendships, and a clearer sense of their future ambitions.

The QAS Summer Society Award continues to play a vital role in supporting students to make the most of their summer, encouraging them to step beyond their comfort zones and engage in meaningful, transformative experiences that enrich their studies and personal growth.
