Lower Sixth United Westminster and Grey Coat Foundation Essay 2023

Lower Sixth students from the five Westminster and Grey Coat Foundation Schools: Queen Anne’s School, Emanuel School, Sutton Valence School, Grey Coat Hospital and Westminster City School were invited to write and submit an independent, self-directed piece of research (a subject of their choice) culminating in a 2500-word essay.  An involvement in this essay competition encouraged students to engage in the following:

  • Practical preparation for the kinds of A Level research in the Sixth Form.
  • An opportunity for them to engage in an in-depth study of a topic of interest within a chosen subject.
  • Formulating an appropriate research question.
  • Engaging in a personal exploration of the topic.
  • Communicating ideas.
  • Developing an argument.

Participation in this process enabled the students to develop the capacity to, analyse, synthesize and evaluate knowledge.
