Alumnae Sixth Form

We were thrilled to welcome Katie back to Queen Anne's last week to speak to Sixth Form Students about her time at QAS and were she is now. Katie has had quite the journey in exploring various career paths and gaining valuable experiences along the way. Here's a summary of her journey and the advice that she gave to our current students.

Katie studied at QAS for 7 years until 2019. She was initially interested in becoming a nurse/paramedic but then considered drama school. She explored the idea of studying media and communications at university but when she was faced with rejection from her first choice she decided to take a gap year and opted for a liberal arts course at Nottingham University.

This course enabled her to study modules in Music, English, Psychology, Film, and Media which suited her career exploration journey. Sadly however, COVID struck and after just one term, Katie returned home for lockdown. However, she used this time at home wisely, gaining experience in social media and marketing by working with a skincare brand online.

Upon returning to Nottingham to finish her degree course, she became heavily involved in musical theatre shows, served on committees, and became head of student TV in the entertainment sector.

Katie spoke about the importance of gaining as much professional experience as possible and showed how she pursued various internships and part-time jobs whilst studying at Nottingham and after she had graduated. These included working part-time at the Nottingham Playhouse, working with community groups and The Playhouse Platform, Nine Lives Media (work experience), ITV Talent Pool (one year, learned about production, post-production, and talent relations), ITV TwoFour (one-week work experience).

She eventually landed a graduate scheme at Warner Bros, working in PR, covering events, finance, administration, support, and talent management. She was also thrilled to announce that she will soon be moving on to a new job at Sky, working in the awards team on prestigious events like the Oscars and BAFTAs, as well as other content-related projects.

Throughout her journey, Katie demonstrated adaptability, perseverance, and a willingness to explore different career paths until finding her niche in the entertainment industry. Her diverse experiences have likely equipped her with a broad skill set and valuable insights into various aspects of media, communications, and event management.
