Last week, our U4 French students immersed themselves in five days of puzzles, problem‑solving, and linguistic challenges as part of the prestigious GCHQ Language Competition.
This national competition involves schools across the country competing against one another to be crowned champions at the GCHQ headquarters in Cheltenham.

Working in teams of three or four, our students dedicated both lesson time and their own free time to score as many points as possible over the week. They drew on their impressive knowledge of multiple languages - including German, English, Spanish, French, Italian, Russian, Dutch, and Mandarin - to crack codes and tackle puzzles.
As well as competing against other schools, the teams at Queen Anne's raced to place first against each other, with the final team rankings as follows:
- Ginormous Goat (Stella, Harriet and Harriet) - 1st
- Quirky Quail (Isabella, Maya, Sophie, Chloe) - 2nd
- Nimble Bee (Jess, Audrey, Juliet, Izzy) – 3rd
Although Queen Anne's didn’t take home the national title this year, the experience gave our students a deeper appreciation of language and showed them how their skills can be applied in exciting, real‑world contexts!
