Bust Up! 2023

Whole School Event

Bust Up! is a long-standing Queen Anne’s tradition where the whole school comes together for an afternoon of year group songs, student-made videos, and a grand finale silent disco.

This year the students’ theme was ‘British Icons’. They made an excellent effort and we saw a brilliant collection of British personalities, ranging from musical icons such as the Spice Girls to television icons, Ant and Dec!

There were then some more obscure choices - the pound coin, London tube stations and a Christmas dinner. We also saw Queen Anne’s own Mr Towse amongst the collection!

As is tradition with the fancy dress, the staff were given a secret theme to surprise the students. This year’s staff theme was ‘Come as your younger self’. Members of staff could also submit a photo of themselves to recreate and the students had the task of guessing who was in the photo before the grand reveal.

The winner of the best recreation was Mrs Spellman!

Students from L5, U5 and L6 were all tasked with making a video inspired by British Shows but with a QAS twist. We saw ‘I’m a Lower 5 Get Me Out of Here!’, The Great QAS Bake Off and QAS Island. Each submission was incredibly creative and really showcased the best aspects of British Shows with some QAS magic!

The Upper 6 created a video where Mr Stephenson tasked them with ‘Saving Christmas’ by creating the perfect Bust Up video. After being turned away by some members of staff and starting to lose hope, Ms Purves saved the day by giving the students a Christmas Box full of festive goodies! With Last Christmas as the musical backdrop, staff and students around QAS got into the spirit and danced and sang to bring the cheer!

Ending the day with a silent disco allowed the perfect opportunity for the students (and staff) to celebrate the end of term!

A huge thank you to the Head Girls, Senior Prefects and Sixth Form for their support in passing down this treasured tradition.
