Drama Workshop

The sound of punches, screams and kicks could be heard emanating from the Performing Arts Centre recently, but there was no cause for concern as it was only the Drama Scholars working on stage fighting moves in their termly masterclass.

Professional stuntman and pro-wrestler Miles Ley taught the students several stage combat moves with the emphasis being on making the move look effective whilst being entirely safe with little to no contact. The students then put together their moves and performed their “fight” to each other.

A level student, Nel, said

It was such fun and we learnt so much about how to make a fight look very realistic but, most importantly, completely safe.

Miles added that he was extremely impressed with the discipline, focus and energy of all the participants.

Head of Drama, Rhodri Punter, said

Our Masterclasses are a very valuable part of the Scholars’ programme because it enables us to teach the girls things that they wouldn’t normally learn within the curriculum
