Poem of the Week - A Blade of Grass

Lower Sixth student Gaia D has a passion for poetry, and has decided to start and share a ‘Poem of the Week’ series here on the Sixth Form Blog.

Her first chosen poem is ‘A Blade of Grass’ by Brian Patten (1946):

"‘A Blade of Grass’ by Brian Patten is a poem about the misconception of what art or poetry truly is or can be" says Gaia. "A poem can be as simple as a blade of grass, however society deems it as “not good enough” - why? As a society we believe that real art should be something as hard difficult to understand, and Patten tries to debunk this idea. Art can be anything we want it to be; everything has meaning and beauty if we take the time to look for it."

What do you think of this week's poem?
