Studying Politics - A 21st Century A Level

A Level Sixth Form Blog

You’re probably wondering what A Level politics is.

If you enjoy reading about Donald Trump, find yourself following the news and relish in debating, this could be the subject for you. Don’t be put off by the fact you haven’t studied politics before – no one has.

Starting to study a new subject at A Level is simple, because the teachers ease you in (they don’t expect you to know everything before you’ve studied it!) and make it both fun and painless. You could almost call studying politics ’21st century history’, with the occasional statistic.

Understanding the country you live in gives you a better knowledge of the world, as politics affects everyone, everyday, and means that in a couple of years’ time when you vote, you make a truly informed decision. Moreover, it gives you a broader understanding of the democratic process which we are all part of.

I’ve only be studying politics for a few weeks, but I like knowing what neo-liberalism is, and I like knowing how it’s different from neo-conservatism. I want to go to my classes because I love learning about all of these little nuances, and I can see how they impact the world we live in. It’s rare to study a subject which you can permanently see in action.

This A Level isn’t for everyone, but if you want to broaden your knowledge, and take something a bit outside the box, I would recommend studying politics!
