Whole School Lecture Talk

From school to the world of Fashion

Resourcefulness over resources

Cherise Trimingham joined our whole school community on Monday 6th March to talk to students and staff about her career journey so far.

Cherise attended the Bulmershe School and knew she always wanted to work in Fashion, predominantly as a designer. With the help of Google, Cherise researched summer schools to join after sitting her GCSEs and discovered one that was taking place in London. Unfortunately, it was fully booked, but that was just the start of Cherise’s tenacity and not taking no for an answer.

Cherise travelled to London on the first day of the summer school and informed the organiser that she wanted to take part. They recognised and appreciated her determination and offered her a place. This determination and self-belief has taken Cherise to study a Foundation course at Central Saint Martins, a BA in Fashion Sportswear at the University of the Arts London (achieving First Class Honours), a semester studying in Milan and an internship with Tom Ford.

Cherise highlighted to students the importance of networking, creating and making the most of opportunities and taking chances. Her first shows at New York Fashion Week and London Fashion Week were all secured through the connections and relationships she had built at university and during her internships. Cherise launched her luxury sportswear brand, Trimingham, 5 years ago from her family kitchen table. It has gone from strength to strength with pop up shops on Oxford Street and in the Reading branch of John Lewis.

It was amazing to hear Cherise speak of the dedication she has to her work, her designs and promoting her label.
