At the beginning of July, just as the rest of school finished for the summer holiday, 23 L6 students boarded minibuses and set off for their highly successful five day Gold DofE expedition in the Lake District. The weather was mixed, with high wind and torrential rain to start and gentle breezes and sunshine to finish, the scenery was beautiful, and the terrain was challenging – as befitting a Gold expedition! The Sam Sykes expedition staff expressed their admiration for the good spirits and determination shown by all and all participants passed with flying colours. This promises to be a bumper year for Gold awards, and Mrs Eagle is hoping for a record number of invites for the Buckingham Palace award ceremony in April. Watch this space!
