The annual Queen Anne’s School Sports Day was a success this year with many students competing in several track and field events.
With plenty of sunshine and ice creams to go around, the afternoon started with junior field events including long jump, high jump, shot putt, javelin and discus, and senior track events. There was great strength and determination shown by the athletes and some fierce competition as each charter cheered on their team.
The afternoon followed with the senior field events, junior track events and relays. Each charter took part in a junior, inter and senior 4 x 100m relay which caused a great buzz of excitement on the field.
However, the most excitement was caused by the highly anticipated staff relay event, with the Maintenance team, English department, Maths department and Music department all competing for the gold. Congratulations to the maintenance team who won by far, and to all teams for taking part in such a fun event.
The day concluded with a celebration of awards as Austen charter took the overall win with the most points over the day. 2023 saw the introduction of the Burley Cup, named after our Director of Sport, Nicola Burley, as she departs Queen Anne’s this year after 21 years of service to the school. The Burley Cup is awarded to a student who shows determination, sportsmanship, and dedication on sports day, who this year was Olivia C. Congratulations Olivia on receiving the first ever Burley Cup and being a true team player at QAS.
