Women in Business

Nobody enters the workplace finished

What do you expect from an employer?

What does an employer expect from you?

How and when should you negotiate your salary?

What do you need to know about employment law?

These questions were posed to our Year 13 students as part of a Women in Business event delivered by Natasha Kearslake from Organic P&O Solutions Ltd.

Students were treated to pastries and hot drinks as they worked in teams to discuss what they would do in a variety of workplace situations, what a 'good' employer looks like and how to research any company they have ambitions to work for. Tash gave a clear message of empowerment and taking control to students to help them prepare for employment in the future.

Our students have the power to choose who they work for and the environment they want to work in. Tash introduced the 6 pillars of positive employment – Self, Team, Boss, Lifestyle, Environment and Accomplishments and talked through the importance of each pillar. Students were introduced to legislation that helps protect employees from discrimination and discussed how they would deal with any they experience or witness in the future.

The idea of lifelong learning was also promoted, and I loved Tash's quote - "Nobody enters the workplace finished".

Feedback from everyone who participated was positive and helped them feel a little bit more prepared for future employment.

If you have any questions about any of the activities and events that are delivered as part of the careers programme, please do not hesitate to get in touch. If you would like to offer your time, experience, or expertise to the programme, I would love to have you on board.
