Toby Marlow visits Queen Anne's School

Students at Queen Anne’s School were treated to an inspirational guest speaker on the first day of the Spring Term. Toby Marlow, co-writer of the hit musical ‘Six The Musical’, joined Queen Anne’s Director of Music John Padley on stage for a special Q & A session on the world of musical theatre. Toby shared his journey from school through to realising a lifelong ambition to write a show for the West End and Broadway success.

The girls were enthralled by the twists and turns of his career which took off stratospherically when Toby and his co-writer Lucy Moss performed their university society creation at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and were approached by top producers in the industry. Toby also talked about how Covid has had a devastating effect on the Arts but also how many theatres and actors have responded with great innovation resulting in creative ways to survive. In particular Toby has enjoyed some of the incredible virtual theatre that was released.

The audience was excited to hear that Toby and Lucy are working hard on some big projects to be released in the coming months – from song writing and musical comedy to screen projects. John Padley commented “It was fantastic to be able to welcome Toby Marlow to Queen Anne’s and a great privilege to hear him speak. The girls responded with a range of insightful and interesting questions about the world of Musical Theatre and left with much inspiration for their own journeys ahead.”
