L6 Lecture Series #8: Rosie Dart: A Career in Casting
Share
Alumnae L6

Rosie Dart was a student here at Queen Anne's from Lower 4 to Upper 6. After leaving in 2016 she went on to study English Literature at Durham University.

Whilst at school Rosie was heavily involved in Drama and could often be found over at the PAC. She recognises the school drama productions as the catalyst for her love of acting and seeing the work that goes into the shows off stage and behind the scenes made her increasingly interested in the careers that support the end result of either a show or film.

Rosie spoke to the Lower 6 about her career in casting, as part of the year group's lecture series. After leaving University, Rosie worked as a Casting Intern at Mad Dog, then as a Casting Assistant at Amy Hubbard Casting, she then went to NBCUniversal and worked as a Production Assistant but soon returned to the world of casting and joined Pricilla John & Orla Maxwell.

She is currently casting for two exciting Netflix feature films, Enola Holmes 2 and Luther. Rosie explained the casting process from receiving the script all the way to the contract agreement, she also spoke about the important skills someone in casting is required to have, such as an eye for potential, personable and the ability to understand the script and envision the character.

The girls even had a go at casting, when Rosie tasked them with suggesting the lead actors for a hypothetical Romeo and Juliet TV series!

The students were very interested in Rosie's career and asked many questions. Her talk shed light on a part of filmmaking that many of us have never even considered. Rosie wished to promote careers in the creative industries, reassuring the students that whatever subject they are interested in, there is probably a job for them in TV, Film or Theatre!
