Over the beginning of half term a group of 16 of us went to Madrid for a weekend of cultural enrichment and speaking Spanish. As soon as we had arrived we were busy exploring the area where we were staying, Puerta del Sol.

On our first full day, we went on a morning walking tour in glorious sunshine to see all the main sites in the centre of the city, followed by afternoon visits to the famous Museo del Prado and Círculo de Bellas Artes, a rooftop where we enjoyed panoramic views of Madrid. That evening we all took part in a Flamenco workshop, learning about the key features of the dance and music, followed by an authentic Flamenco show during dinner.

We also learnt how to use the Metro, which helped for the rest of the trip. The next day we went to El Rastro, a very busy flea market, and this gave us a chance to practice our Spanish as not many people there spoke English. We were given plenty of independence to explore the market and get lunch in the Square. Lunch was followed by a trip on the Metro to the Las Ventas bull ring and Real Madrid Bernabeu stadium.

This was our last night so Mrs Bushby took a group of us to a very famous cafe to try the Spanish delicacy, Churros y chocolate. Once we got back to the hotel we played pool and games of cards. On our last day, first we went to the famous Retiro park in the morning, where some of us practised our rowing skills on the boating lake! We then had free time to get lunch and go shopping before heading home. It was such a great trip due to the trust from the teachers and the great planning of activities for each day.

We had a lovely cultural weekend immersed in Spanish culture and were lucky enough to enjoy warm, sunny weather. The girls were a pleasure to take on a trip and it was great to hear them using their Spanish too! Thanks also to Ms Khuman and Mr Grose-Hodge for accompanying.
