Queen Anne’s Sports News

Monday 21st May 2018

A round up of all the latest sports news in the week commencing Monday 14 May 2018.

Dance

We start with some exciting news from the weekend. Queen Anne’s dance company took part in the Make Your Move Dance Competition heats on Saturday, and as well as winning best choreography, they won the senior section of the competition which means they qualify for the finals at the O2 on Sunday 8 July.

Rowing

The Queen Anne’s rowers have been out competing, this time rowing against Reading university mid-week and then competed in the Ball Cup last weekend.

Rachel G and Charlotte Wboth won silver in the J18 double.

Alicia B, Katie G, Rachel G and Charlotte W won gold in the J18 quad.

Synchro

Congratulations to Annaliese M who successfully passed her synchro grade 3 exam and Alice C who has recently qualified as a level 1 floor and vaulting judge for gymnastics.

Athletics

The junior and inter teams competed in the first round of the ESAA track and field cup on Thursday at Palmer Park. The inter team was affected by injury and illness, so thank you to those girls who stepped in at the last minute or changed event to help the team. They came 6th overall. The junior team came second out of nine schools and we hope that their points score will be high enough across the region to qualify for a regional final.

In between Foundation Sports Day and the Track and Field Cup Ella B competed in the Buckinghamshire County Athletics Championships held in Oxford. She ran the 1,500m for U13 girls in a very fast time of 5:03.38, which ranks her in the top ten nationally for her age group. She then competed in the Crystal Palace Triathlon on Sunday, which is a very competitive triathlon forming part of the London series and came away with the bronze.

Tennis

There were home and away matches against St Mary’s Ascot on Saturday. The opposition were strong but the overall scores do not reflect the level of tennis played by the girls. There were some excellent rallies, serves and vollies.

The girls who played at Ascot just managed to time the end of their match so that they could watch Meghan walk up the aisle!
