There are some sporting experiences you never forget and racing under the lights at StoneX Stadium alongside some of the biggest names in athletics is certainly one of them.
Sophia (L4) has enjoyed an exceptional few weeks on the track, culminating in the opportunity to compete at ATHLOS, an international athletics event bringing together leading athletes from around the world.
Her journey began in August at a competition at StoneX Stadium, where she produced a brilliant series of performances. Sophia recorded a new long jump personal best of 4.31m, placing her within the top 60 nationally for U13s, before setting a new StoneX Stadium record in the 150m with a time of 20.9 seconds. That performance also placed her within the top 25 in the country for U13s.
Those results earned Sophia an invitation to trial for the ATHLOS youth races. Competing against 24 U12 athletes, she ran the 100m in 14 seconds and secured one of just six available places in the competition.
Then, on Friday 18 September, Sophia returned to StoneX Stadium to take her place on the ATHLOS stage. She finished 6th out of 12 in the 100m youth race and set another new personal best of 13.8 seconds, placing her within the top 10 nationally for U12s.
The experience was made even more memorable by the chance to warm up on the same track, at the same time, as world-class sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson.
A fantastic achievement and a very exciting start to the season. Congratulations, Sophia!
