VOCES8 Foundation Schools' Concert

Wednesday 6th May 2015

On Wednesday 29 April, students from our five Foundation Schools came together to perform a concert in Christ Church, Spitalfields, London.

The concert was to mark the end of this year’s VOCES8 Project and consisted of each school performing the music that they had worked on with members of VOCES8 throughout the year. The schools that participated in the concert were Westminster City School, Grey Coat Hospital, Emanuel School, Sutton Valence School alongside Queen Anne’s.

The range of music offered was fantastic: from Palestrina to Imogen Heap, The level of performance was top-rate from all the students. Queen Anne’s group of 14 singers performed two pieces “Hide and Seek” by Imogen Heap and “Some Nights” by Fun. Both were sung a cappella and the complex arrangements were created by L6 music scholar, Gabrielle Woodward.

Speaking about the VOCES8 Project, Mr John Padley, Head of Music at Queen Anne’s, said,

“The aim of the VOCES8 Project is that the students have to work on their own to produce the final performance and there is no staff involvement. This is such a valuable experience as it teaches so many essential life skills. The results on Wednesday are not only a credit to our students but prove the validity of such a fabulous project.”
