The Senior Musicians Bring the House Down at the Senior Concert
Friday 1st December 2017
On Tuesday 21 November, the Senior Musicians from Queen Anne’s brought the house down with their outstanding performances at the Senior Music Concert held in the School Hall.
The evening was a true reflection of the amazing musical talent that the Music Department at Queen Anne’s continues to produce and allow to flourish. The concert began with the Chamber Orchestra performing Ungar’s ‘Ashokan Farewell’ followed by Camille M’s (U6) solo violin piece which displayed her musical abilities to perfection. It is not just performance that is encouraged at Queen Anne’s, the Seven Deadly Strings performed a piece written by our very own Anastasia D (L6); a piece that is full of originality and is very well-structured.
There were further ensemble performances later in the concert featuring the Bella Quintetti, Jazzabelles and the Concert Band. The Upper Sixth wind quintet engaged in some challenging repertoire with a work by Volante. The Jazzabelles performed a very popular number by Duke Ellington, which was simply brilliant and the Concert Band brought things to a close with a successful arrangement of ‘Aladdin’.
There were also some astounding solo performances across many different genres including the baroque, classical, romantic, early twentieth century periods and musical theatre. Bronwen S (U6), Aoife J (L6), Eleanor S (U6), Katharine D (L6), Molly S (U4), Rebecca W (U6), Isabelle R (U6), Anna W (U6), Alicia R (U5), Sharon C (U5) and Anna T (L5) all deserve congratulations for the technical virtuosity and musicianship they displayed. The Music Department must be thanked for all their hard work in preparing the girls for the evening.
