My Time on the One Year GCSE Course at Queen Anne’s

Monday 6th March 2017

Carla, currently in the U5, is completing her one year GCSE course, something Queen Anne’s has introduced successfully and this is reflected in Carla’s time at the school. Please read below to find out all about Carla’s experience.

I always thought it might be difficult for me to attend classes and really understand the content. Now that I am at Queen Anne’s, I am delighted with my decision to come to England for one year. I have made so many friends who I will hopefully stay in touch with even when I leave Queen Anne’s next summer.

The teachers from my old school said that doing GCSE in one year might be too difficult but because all my teachers here at Queen Anne’s are supporting me so well, I am hopeful that I can achieve pleasing grades in the exams. For example, I never understood anything in chemistry in Germany and now it is one of my favourite subjects.

I also started rowing when I joined Queen Anne’s. Now it is such a big part of my life and many of my close friends here are in my team. We train almost every day and it is a rewarding feeling to have such a strong team. However, I still play tennis twice a week, which is also very gratifying. I was just accepted into the tennis academy this term and I really enjoy the training. Probably one of the best parts of the week are the Saturday morning activities when we can do yoga, ceramics, textiles and other activities. I really enjoy ceramics and textiles because the teachers help us with any ideas we have.

I am a full boarder and therefore I spend most of my time in school and it is always a highlight when I go to London or Reading with my friends on the weekends. I think what I will miss the most when I get back to Germany are the friends I made here. Overall, I have thoroughly enjoyed my first two terms at Queen Anne’s and I would never trade these memories for anything.
