Stunning Directorial Debut for Queen Anne’s Students

Friday 12th February 2016

Four Sixth Form Students from Queen Anne’s School in Caversham are celebrating the success of their directorial debut as they staged the school’s first ever student directed musical production of ‘Annie.’

Performances of the Broadway musical across three nights were in aid of the girls’ chosen charity ‘Rosie’s Rainbow Fund.’ They were challenged by Mr Rhodri Punter, Head of Drama, to raise £2,000 however they surpassed this number raising an outstanding £2,325!

The production was organised, cast and directed entirely by A Level students Rosie Dart, Alice Knott, Sasha Eastabrook and Annabel Marlow who are all key and excellent drama performers themselves. Along with the rigour of A Level studies, the girls worked hard to produce the show, casting 31 girls out of 90 auditionees, with Mackenzie Wilcox (4s pupil) taking on the eponymous role of ‘Annie.’

The money, which was raised through donations, the purchasing of programmes and refreshments sales, will go to ‘Rosie’s Rainbow Fund’, a local charity that provides music therapy for children in hospitals such as the John Radcliffe in Oxford, as well as bereavement support for parents.

Speaking about the decision behind choosing ‘Rosie’s Rainbow Fund’, Rosie Dart said,

“The charity, ‘Rosie’s Rainbow Fund’, is extremely important to all of us and we are delighted to have raised £2,325 overall.”

A huge congratulations to the girls for a fantastic production!
