Riding Rosettes for Ellie

Wednesday 3rd December 2014

Congratulations to Ellie Toms, 4s, who came third in both of her classes (50cm and 60cm) at the NSEA South East Regional Grass Roots Show Jumping Championship on Saturday 8 November.

Ellie, and her horse called Tod, qualified on the strength of their placings at the Queen Anne’s Show Jumping and Grass Roots Competition at Wellington in July, when they were placed 5th in the 50cm class and 1st in the 60cm class and Ellie and her sister Sophie, U5, had been waiting excitedly for months for the Regional Championships.

It was a very competitive field and Ellie rode a clear round and fast jump off in 50cm and then in 60cm, coped with the rise in height, a change of course and the cold gusty wind, which was exciting some of the ponies including Tod.  The good thing was, that with Tod very revved up, they took the twistiest jump off route possible and shot round the fences with a very fast time achieving 3rd place again. (Even if it was a bit hair-raising to watch!)

There were numerous schools present and it was quite a big list of competitors, many on some very smart ponies and horses.  Sophie ran Ellie’s support team covering the roles of groom, coach and manager and Sophie’s help was pretty essential especially when it came to planning the jump off routes.  Both girls loyally wore Queen Anne’s coats, representing the school well.
