Professor of Chinese Studies Visits the Sixth Form

Wednesday 25th October 2017

Earlier in the term, the Lower Sixth attended a lecture given by Professor Kerry Brown, Professor of Chinese Studies at King’s College, London on the polemical topic of China’s World: What does China Want?

Professor Brown directed the Europe China Research and Advice Network (ECRAN) giving policy advice to the European External Action Service between 2011 and 2014. He is the author of over ten books on modern Chinese politics, history and language and ‘China’s World: What Does China Want’ was published in August 2017.

This was an exceptional presentation which greatly inspired, challenged and motivated our Lower Sixth pupils. After Professor Brown’s lecture, pupils were given the opportunity to ask many questions and enter into good debate with this great academic.

In an exchange of emails giving thanks to Professor Brown, he stated:

‘It was a pleasure to meet so many, attentive and sharp students’.

One Sixth Form student commented:

“China is such an interesting country and it was intriguing to hear from someone who has immersed himself into their culture.”

Professor Brown will return to school next academic year with a continued focus on Chinese politics.
