Music Scholars’ Concert
Monday 22nd October 2018
On Monday 15 October several music scholars performed in an excellent concert in the Taylor Hall, part of the new Scott Music Centre.
Our scholars demonstrated musicianship of the highest order, playing with accuracy, self-control and poise, and performing challenging repertoire with great confidence. Lucy G (L6) and Astrid P (L6) demonstrated a great understanding of Graham Fitkin’s music with a stunning performance of his excellent miniature, Cliché, for two pianos.
Elizabeth D (U4) demonstrated great technical virtuosity in her performance of Scarlatti’s Sonata in E major, and Molly S (L5) revealed a fine understanding of 19th century German lieder with a performance of Schumann’s Windmung. Molly also performed the second movement of Cooke’s Recorder Concerto and a Toccata for Piano by Khatchaturian; the latter was truly exceptional.
Further technical virtuosity on the piano was demonstrated by Darai M (L6) performing Asturias by Albeniz, Zimo H (U5) performing Clair de Lune by Debussy, Eleanor P (L6) performing a Fugue in C Major by Bach and Anna T (U5) performing the first movement of Sviridov’s Piano Concerto in A Minor.
There were further performances by Luise B (U5), Jessica E (U5), Anastasia D (U6), Amaal H (L6), Georgina R (L6), Madeleine B (U5), Rosie F (L5), Emily O (L6) and Yi Shan T (L4). The concert was incredibly varied with the music scholars fully engaged in wide range of contrasting musical genres. A superb evening. Well done to all who participated in the concert.
