Lizzie runs a Fund-raising Marathon
Wednesday 21st November 2018
On Sunday 28 October, U5 student Lizzie R has recently completed a sponsored marathon, as part of her fundraising for a trip Sangam, one of the five world centres of Girl Guiding, in India.
Whilst on this trip, Lizzie and her Girl Guiding group will be working on a local community support project in the area.
If you would like support Lizzie’s Girl Guiding trip to Sangam, India, by donating, please visit her JustGiving page here.
Lizzie kindly gave an account of her extraordinary efforts in completing her marathon:
“On Sunday, I completed a marathon at Betteshanger Country Park in Kent in 7 hours 12 mins.
The course was approximately 13 laps of their cycle track. Unfortunately each lap started with a steady uphill against a howling wind.
The weather was very cold, although there were only 2 heavy hailstorms during the event, so it could have been much worse, but the wind felt relentless and never seemed to be blowing from behind. At the end of each lap there was a water station where I was able to get a drink and small snack before starting the next lap.
The last few laps seemed longer than at the start, with far more uphill than downhill, but as I was aiming to beat a target of 7.5 hours, I kept going and even finished with a short sprint. Everyone there was very supportive and made the hard event worthwhile, although when asked at the end when my next marathon was, I said “never again”!
I did this marathon as part of my fundraising for a trip to India with Girl Guiding in the summer. Whilst in India, I will do some sightseeing as well as visiting Sangam, one of the Girl Guiding World Centers. At Sangam, I will take part in a community project which I am very excited about.
In order for me to go on the trip, I need to fund raise as the trip is very expensive.
If you would like to make a donation, please visit my JustGiving page here. Any amount is gratefully received as it all helps.
Thank You, Lizzie”
Congratulations Lizzie! What an incredible achievement, that you should be very proud of.
Good luck with your fund raising, and we are looking forward to hearing about your trip to Sangam in the future.
