L6 Create Mental Health Workshops with Charity Sport in Mind

Tuesday 4th December 2018

On Thursday 22 November, our Sixth Form students worked with mental health charity Sport in Mind to establish wellbeing and mental health awareness sessions that the charity can teach to other schools.

Sport in Mind are a Berkshire based charity who promote the psychological benefits of being physically active. They use sport and physical activity to help aid the recovery of people experiencing mental health problems and encourage individuals to move their lives forward in a positive direction.

24 of our L6 students volunteered to take part in their workshop which was split into two sections.

Firstly the students heard from Sport in Mind about the work they do and their aims for the charity moving forward.

Secondly, the students were tasked with devising a well being session based on the Sport in Mind ethos which they will be delivering to the rest of the school next term.

Our students taught representatives from Sport in Mind sessions of dance fit, yoga, rowing, gymnastics, and even fencing as part of their 100 sports in a year challenge.

Sport in Mind told us: “It’s been an absolute pleasure to work with your students, we’ve been very impressed by them all.”

With Nice November coming to a close at the end of this week, we are proud to see our students using their initiative to support positive mental health and wellbeing in the wider community. Well done girls!
