Full GCSE Results Round Up

Pupils at Queen Anne’s School in Caversham are celebrating another year of top results.  Commenting on the GCSE results, Mrs Julia Harrington, Headmistress said:

“We are celebrating another fantastic year of GCSE results.  The girls have worked exceptionally hard to obtain top marks which will provide them with the perfect springboard to commence their A Level studies in September.” 

Lydia Marshall16 year old Lydia Marshall, who won a place to study on Saturday mornings at the prestigious Royal Academy of Music, has achieved 8A*s in Biology, Chemistry, English Language, Geography, Latin, Mathematics (IGCSE), Music (IGCSE) and Physics, an A grade in English Literature and B in her French examination. Lydia said:

“I’m overjoyed that I’ve achieved better grades than I expected and I’m looking forward to coming back to Queen Anne’s in September to start my A Level studies.”

Woodley Festival Drama Gold Medallist, Sophie McAlpine, achieved 8 A*s, an A and 2Bs in her GCSE results.  Biology, Chemistry, Drama, English Language, English Literature, History, Latin and Physics were awarded as A* grades.  Sophie also achieved an A in Mathematics (IGSCE) and two B grades in French and Physical Education.

Rebecca and Isabel BeechThe Beech family are celebrating the GCSE results of twins Isabel and Rebecca. Between them the girls achieved 5A*s, 14 As, 2 Bs, a C and a D in Art, Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, English Language, English Literature, French, Geography, Mathematics (IGCSE), Physical Education and Physics.  After opening her results, Rebecca Beech said:

“I’m really pleased that Isabel and I have done so well in our results; the school library has been my home for the last three months so all my hard work has definitely paid off!” 

Alexandra Crowther gained 6 A* grades in Biology, Chemistry, English Language, History, Physical Education and Physics and 5 A grades Business Studies, English Literature, French, Latin and Mathematics (IGCSE).  An ecstatic Alexandra said:

“I couldn’t be happier with my results and I can’t wait to tell my mum the good news!”

Sophie Grundy achieved 6 A*s in Art, Business Studies, English Language, English Literature, Geography, and Additional Science.  Sophie also gained 3 A grades in French, Mathematics (IGCSE) and Core Science.

Sinead McCarthySinead McCarthy received 5 A*s in Biology, Chemistry, English Language, English Literature and Geography. Sinead also scored 3 A grades in Business Studies, Drama and Physics; a B in Mathematics and a C in Spanish.  After opening her results, Sinead said:

“I really wasn’t expecting to receive the grades that I have so I’m over the moon and looking forward to celebrating!”

Emily Owen, 16, from Lower Early, achieved an A* in Geography, 8A grades in Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, English Language, English Literature, Latin, Mathematics (IGCSE) and Physics, as well as 2 B grades in French and Physical Education.


Kendra Broome  received 11A* grades in Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Drama, English language, English Literature, History, Latin, Mathematics (IGCSE), Physical Education and Physics, as well as an A grade in French.

Caitlin Patrick gained 5 A*s in Biology, Chemistry, Geography, History and Physics, 6 A grades in Business Studies, English Language, English Literature, Mathematics (IGCSE), Physical Education and Spanish and a B grade in Latin.

Isabel Sasada achieved 6 A* grades in Biology, English Language, English Literature, History, Latin and Physics and 4 A grades in Chemistry, French, Mathematics (IGCSE) and Physical Education. Isabel said:

“I’m pleased that I’ve achieved great GCSE grades and can’t wait to return to Queen Anne’s in September as a Sixth Form student!”

Lara Sharrock Celebrates GCSE ResultsLara Sharrock received an outstanding 12A*s and an A grade in her GCSE results.  Lara gained A* grades in Art, Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Drama, Dutch, English Language, English Literature, French, Latin, Mathematics (IGCSE) and Physics, as well as an A grade in Physical Education.  Lara is a member of the Queen Anne’s team who will be running 10k with Richard Whitehead MBE, Gold Medal Winning Paralympic Medal Winner on Friday 13 September as he attempts to run the length of Britain raising money for charities Scope and Sarcoma UK.  To sponsor the Queen Anne’s team click here.  After receiving her results, 16 year old Lara said:

“I really didn’t know what to expect however I’m thrilled to have achieved such amazing grades.” 

Mr and Mrs Sharrock, Lara’s parents added:

“Lara thoroughly deserves her fantastic results; she has worked so hard and we are overjoyed for her.”

Jessica De MulderU19 England Lacrosse team member and recent Barclay Ball Kid at the ATP World Tour Finals today received 11A*s and an A grade in her GCSE results.  Jessica De Mulder, 16, from Caversham, achieved A*s in Biology, Chemistry, English Language, English Literature, Geography, History, Latin, Mathematics (IGCSE), Physical Education and Physics and an A grade in her French examination.  The Barclays Ball Kids Programme is a grass roots initiative giving pupils aged 12 – 16 from around the country a chance to join the top eight singles players and doubles teams on court as Ball Kids for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals.  A jubilant Jessica said:

“I was so nervous to open my results but I’m really happy that I’ve done so well. I can’t wait to celebrate my success with my friends at the Reading Festival this weekend.”

80% of grades in English, Latin and the Sciences were A* and A.  In Drama, English Literature and Geography 95% of grades achieved were A*-B and in Art and History over 80% were A*-B grades.  The breakdown of Queen Anne’s School’s GCSE results is as follows:

  • A* / A   60%
  • A* – B  87%
  • A* – C  97%
  • Pass    100%

Mrs Harrington said:

“Not only have the pupils excelled academically but they have done so while pursuing a wide range of interesting and character building interests alongside their academic studies.  This has included playing for the U19 England Lacrosse Team, attending the Junior Royal Academy of Music, winning gold Drama medals at the Woodley Arts Festival and preparing to run with Paralympic Gold Medallist, Richard Whitehead MBE, for charity.”
