Book Club visit Reading Blue Coat School to review the CILIP Carnegie Medal Shortlist

Monday 17th June 2019

On Wednesday 5 June, Queen Anne’s Book Club took a trip to Reading Blue Coat School to discuss the books on the CILIP Carnegie Medal Shortlist for 2019.

Alice R (L4) kindly gave an account of their day, which you can read below:

“On Wednesday, Book Club went to Reading Blue Coat School to discuss the Carnegie shortlist, comprised of books by authors such as Francis Hardinge, Sally Nicholls and Elizabeth Acevedo. We got into groups with people from the other schools and talked about our favourite books.

After we had a discussion as a big group (and some cookies), we had a vote on our favourite books. A House with Chicken Legs (based on the myth of Baba Yaga) won, closely followed by A Long Way Down, (a moving story about the death of a brother). It was very interesting to hear other people’s opinions about the shortlist.

The results of the winner are released on the 18 of June, so if you want to know who wins then check the Carnegie awards website!”

Thank you so much Alice, we look forward to finding out the winner of this year’s CILIP Carnegie Medal soon!
