“The Best Play Ever?!….”
Tuesday 8th December 2015
This term’s production of Steven Berkoff’s play “Metamorphosis” was widely hailed as “the best play ever” by many members of the audience last week – a view supported by the standing ovations in the PAC after the Friday and Saturday performances – (in my 14 year reign, I have never seen a standing ovation in the PAC for any performance).
The cast of nine senior girls worked as a true ensemble with each one contributing to the overall effect of the production. The principal role of Gregor Samsa was shared by Rosie Dart and Alice Knott, who both gave a mesmeric and engaging performance. The cast was ably assisted by Yeshe Thapa Magar (lighting and make-up), Katie Dart (hair and backstage) and Evie Holland (backstage).
The three night run of the production ended with a buffet supper party for the girls and their parents. Also in attendance were actors Peter Saracen (“Crimewatch”), Matthew Scott and singer Debra Noel, lead singer of the swing band ‘Duchess and the Dukes’.
The drama highlights of next term are the L4 Drama Production of the “Grimm’s Fairy Tales” in January, a one-off charity production of “Annie”, organised by a group of Sixth Form Drama Scholars, and the Middle School Drama Production of “Daisy Pulls It Off” in March.
