Thursday 27th November 2014
Queen Anne’s dramanauts “wowed” the judges at the Marlow Festival of Music and Drama held on Saturday 8 to Sunday 9 November, with all three Queen Anne’s girls winning a gold or silver medal in their category. The drama department are particularly delighted as this is the first time that Queen Anne’s have participated in this event.
Sophie McAlpine, U6, won a Silver medal in her category (Solo Acting: 18 years old). Her performance of Nina from Chekhov’s “The Seagull” was described by the adjudicator, Vivienne Redford LLAM MSTSD, as “a finely-layered, deeply intelligent and sincere performance”.
Romilly Hayward, U4, won a Gold medal (Prose: 15 years old) and a Silver medal (Verse: 15 years old). She was described as having “a beautiful voice and eyes so alive with expression – I could listen to you all day!”
Meanwhile, Annabel Marlow, U5, (Solo Acting: 15 years old) also won a Silver medal for her performance of a monologue from the very challenging play “The Fastest Clock in the Universe”. Her performance was described as “utterly compelling.”
Mrs Durham, Head of Extra-Curricular Drama, organised the event and said, “the standard was very, very high and it was a really lovely event with very helpful feedback; we’ll be back next year for more silverware!”
