4s Art Trip to the V&A Museum

Monday 22nd February 2016

On Tuesday 9 February, the 4s year group raced up to London to visit the V&A Museum and study the work of non-European artists – their theme in art for this academic year.

Luckily the girls had special workbooks to help them focus on certain collections in the museum. These were: Japan, South-East Asia, Fashion and the Al Thani exhibition of jewels from India. The latter exhibition was magnificent and pupils got to see diamonds the size of ostrich eggs as well as many other precious stones.

In the Japan collection, pupils studied Inro and Netsuke as well as Japanese vases; in the Fashion rooms pupils explored clothing from the 17th and 18th centuries and in the South East Asia rooms, pupils got to experience Tipu’s Tiger. At the very end of the day everyone visited an extra exhibition and got to try on costumes from famous musicals.
