A Half Term Spent Exploring Barcelona for our Art GCSE Students
Friday 4th November 2016
Freddie Mercury once sang, ‘Barcelona – Such a beautiful horizon, Barcelona – Like a jewel in the sun’ and it was with these words ringing in our heads that a group of GCSE students set off bright and early on Monday 24th October headed to this wonderful city.
We were very lucky and found ourselves staying at a hotel right in the centre of Barcelona, in the Placa Reial, a great introduction to Catalan life. The next morning our visit started in earnest. Despite the drizzle, we admired Parc Guell, explored La Sagrada Familia and at the end of the day experienced some typical Catalan cuisine. The next few days were full of visits to Figueres to see Salvador Dali’s house, the Miro Museum and Antonio Gaudi’s Casa Mila. We walked up La Rambla many times, sat in the sun at the marina and ‘surfed’ on the Metro. On top of this, each student completed a special Barcelona sketchbook which will ultimately go towards their GCSE portfolios. A great trip with a fantastic group of students.
Hasta la proxima vez Barcelona!
