Queen Anne’s USA Lacrosse Tour 2016

Thursday 8th September 2016

Over the summer holidays, 34 Queen Anne’s pupils enjoyed the trip of a lifetime as they travelled to California in America to participate on a ten-day lacrosse tour. Below, Miss Katie Armstrong, Elite Sports Coach, summarised the trip and the full variety of activities that the girls were involved in during their time:

“California was a very successful tour, providing valuable experience for the girls leading into the lacrosse season ahead. There were a variety of activities held for the girls, along with four training sessions and four matches for each team. During the training sessions, the U15 players were briefly introduced to team tactics that would be needed for the season ahead, with the 1st team focusing on the fundamentals of lacrosse with the use of some new set plays. Having won six out of eight matches, the girls are in a good position in the build up to the National Schools’ Lacrosse Championships this year.

Although a lot of lacrosse was played, we also fitted in some fun day trips to Disney World, Universal Studios and a Hollywood Open Top Bus Tour. The trip was also a star-studded experience as the girls were fortunate enough to meet several celebrities. After our yoga conditioning on the beach, we bumped into James Corden! We also saw Akon in the Cheesecake Factory and Suki Waterhouse in the airport on the way home!

Post matches, we got a taste of the classic American tailgates hosted by the opposition’s parents, as well as post match BBQ’s with the players.

The tour has proved to be a great learning experience for the girls, especially highlighting to them the intensity they need to work at in order to perform at their very best. The girls have come away fitter, and more importantly, as a stronger unit within their teams. A huge thank you to all the girls for being such a pleasure to look after. Bring on this season! #californiagurls #laxinLAX”
