Queen Anne’s School, Caversham challenged the Grey Coat Hospital and United Westminster Schools at the Foundation School’s Athletics Championship, held at Palmer Park, Reading on Friday 11 May.

Queen Anne’s won the championship with an impressive score of 575 points, with Grey Coat Hospital taking second place with 551 points.

Individual success for Queen Anne’s included Caitlin Baty and Hannah Nugent who became the Junior and Intermediate Girls’ Champions respectively. Hannah and Caitlin set new Foundation records in long jump and 800 metres, while Elena Fleming set a record with her discus throw of 22.93m.

Queen Anne’s links with the Grey Coat Hospital Foundation go back to 1698, when eight merchants first set up the educational charity and a few years later established the Royal Foundation of Queen Anne in Westminster.  Queen Anne’s School in Caversham was officially opened on Ascension Day in 1894 and still retains its connection with Westminster, holding a celebratory service at the Abbey every three years.
