The Grey Coat Hospital Foundation, an educational charity, was established in 1698, by eight merchants in Westminster. A few years later, the charity received the Royal Foundation of Queen Anne, and Queen Anne’s School was officially opened on its Caversham site on Ascension Day in 1894.  The school still retains strong links with Westminster, and holds a celebratory service at Westminster Abbey every three years.
