L4 Trip To The MMA Festival Of Singing
Friday 14th October 2016
On Monday 10 October, the L4 year group travelled by coach to Brighton to participate in the MMA Festival of Singing, alongside other prep and senior schools from around the south of England.
The long journey to the coast was broken up with a welcome stop at Cobham Services which provided the girls with the fuel they needed to get them to their destination. When we arrived at the Brighton Dome, which was the venue for the event, we took a stroll to the seafront to eat our lunch. The girls thoroughly enjoyed this part of the trip and some threw pebbles into the water.
On returning to the Dome, the girls took part in a massed choral workshop of all the participating schools, led by Alexander L’Estrange, one of Britain’s leading composers. Mr L’Estrange had composed a piece for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012 entitled ‘Zadok Rules – Hallelujah!’ and this was what the girls had been learning in the weeks leading up to their trip. It sounded great when our girls’ voices were mixed with the many other children who were in the vast auditorium. They were also joined by four professional singers.
After the hour-long workshop there was a concert which parents were invited to attend. Some school choirs gave solo performances and the Queen Anne’s Lower Four Choir was no exception. They gave a stirring rendition of ‘Part of Your World’ from ‘The Little Mermaid’ and should be very proud of themselves for this.
