One of the strengths of Queen Anne’s School is the important role that day girls play in our community. Ffyler is one of the junior day houses with girls from L4-U5 who are proud to be members of this House. Our day house is a space for students to work, rest and play and we encourage the girls to make it their own and try to incorporate any suggestions they have on improving the House. We nominate Lower Sixth students to take up House roles and become mentors for the younger year groups.

Ffyler girls come to House every evening, and if they are not taking part in one of the many activities on offer, they use their specially designated prep rooms to complete their homework. ‘Home time is your own time’ is a popular phrase we use and there is always a teacher available to help with prep to ensure that everything is completed by 6.30pm.  When prep is finished girls usually come up to the Ffyler ‘sit’ and café area and have some hot chocolate or squash. The girls can watch TV or put on music but they are normally more interested in catching up with friends!

When asked what words sprang to mind when the girls thought of Ffyler they said:

  • Community
  • Sense of belonging
  • Cool
  • Hot chocolate
  • Inter-House games
  • Family
  • Open for ideas
  • Colourful

As a House we take part in many exciting activities which allows our competitive spirit to shine. Last term we took part in House Music, House Decoration competition and other various sporting challenges. We look forward to the summer term and the opportunity to show our united front by wearing our house t-shirts and face paints at Sports Day. Our House colour is purple and we are always keen for purple to be the winning colour!

As Housemistress I am always available to talk to the girls to discuss their academic and pastoral development.  Once a term I organise a tea for each year group which really helps me get to know the girls as individuals. I am proud of their individual successes and the commitment every girl shows to Ffyler. House parties are always fun and something to look forward to.  Our Sixth Form representatives organised games and pizza this Christmas and we are already looking forward to our next summer party with pizza and bouncy castles!
