U4 Pupils Present Outstanding 'Tycoon in Schools' Submissions

On Thursday 24 September, the School Hall was filled with excited and yet nervous U4 girls for the ‘Tycoon in Schools’ Presentation.

Just three weeks earlier, the girls had started to work on their ideas for this year’s ‘Tycoon in Schools’ challenge and now the moment that they had to present their ideas had arrived. The standard of entries was outstanding from all teams showcasing innovative products ranging from home-made bath “bombs” to tie-dyed shoe laces to a bowl made from buttons. Old books had been re-used as storage, pyramids of tin cans had been finely decorated, old clothes had been re-used into pillows (“to smell like home”) and shoe boxes had been imaginatively transformed into storage units for mobile phones and “tuck”.

With wonderful smells and aromas filling the hall it was an impossible task for the 3 judges – Mrs Harrington, Mrs Holgate and Ms Chong-Seng – to reach a final decision and so this year, for the first time, we chose three teams to represent the school:

  • “Picture This” will be selling picture frames decorated with backing paper and string so that polaroid pictures can be displayed on miniature pegs.
  • “GlamCans” will be recycling tins into a glamorous, fashionable and funky … Glamcans with a multitude of uses!
  • “RustiQ” will be producing slate chalk boards for the home, for school and for the office.

Business plans have been formulated and the proposals are currently being considered by the ‘Tycoons in Schools’ team to see whether they will fund the proposals. We hope that soon you will all be able to see and indeed purchase these products to support the girls in their ventures and, of course, to support the underlying charities that they have all chosen who will receive any profits that they make.
