The first weekend of the term had a spectacular showing for Queen Anne’s, as W’s were set out across the board for all age groups. The teams dominated from the lower school all the way to the top with the following results:
- U12 W 10-2: Commended: Isabella Bowater & Olivia Skoryk
- U13 W 7-2: Commended: Jessica Roberts
- U14 W 7-4: Commended: Lizzie Thomas & Olivia Yates
- U15 W 8-5: Commended: Imogen Lockhart & Lara Sharrock
- 2nd W 8-3: Commended: Jemma Packham
- 1st W 10-3: Commended: Charlotte Gibbon
First team Lacrosse Captain, Caitlin Baty, has summarized the action of this week’s fixtures.
The U12’s started 2012 with an excellent win. The weekend’s captain Isabella Bowater particularly shone in the midfield making some excellent turnovers from defence to attack. Nevertheless, these turnovers did not take place without the support from the rest of the team. A highlight of the match was a fast break goal; Isabella Toaldo carried the ball into the attack and then passed across crease for a beautiful assist. Overall the team played brilliantly and this result was a very promising start for the term.
Throughout the U13’s debut to the new term, the defence showed some fantastic play. Abi Cooper, showed some great defensive work, ensuring it was difficult for the opposing team to drive in and score. Jessica Roberts contributed some captivating and reliable play in attack. Overall in attack, there were moments of slick and clever play which secured them a marvellous 7 goals.
The U14’s definitely started the term well. It was significant how well they worked as a team and this teamwork was highlighted by the excellent communication shown in the defensive unit. St Bartholomew’s attack was very strong and so the team did brilliantly preventing the opposing team from scoring goals. Ella McNeill scored a fantastic 4 goals in the first half, however had to retire early due to a back injury. Nevertheless, the team did not let this affect their play and they managed to score another 3 goals to secure a win.
The U15’s showed some beautiful lacrosse play this Saturday. Lara Sharrock, Rebecca Beech and Jess De Mulder made some stunning moves on attack, moving the ball off quickly and efficiently to ensure one of them had space to drive to goal. Zoe Webb and Alex Crowther played very dynamically on the field, making some spectacular turnovers with interceptions. In the midfield, Imogen Lockhart showed solid transitional skills bring the ball up the field to create scoring opportunities. Overall the team played extremely well and are looking very promising for the National schools’ tournament later on in the season.
The 2nds started the first game of the term strongly, playing at 100% for the full 40 minutes. Jemma Packham shone throughout the game, approaching play with a composed yet dynamic manner, which ensured the ball was passed of quickly and efficiently to other members on the pitch. The rest of the team played very well, ending the first game of the term with a win.
The 1st team opened the new term with what looked like an effortless win. In the first half, the attack demonstrated some beautiful play, passing the ball around the perimeter with much accuracy, looking regularly into the fan to see the free cutter. The girls managed to score some cracking goals; two fast breaks from a quick turnover in defence resulted in two very slick goals by Saskia Hamilton-Bowker. Charlotte Gibbon exhibited some excellent defensive work, putting great pressure on the opposing team which prevented the very fast opposition driving in to score. Overall the team played excellently and are in high hopes for the remainder of the season.
