Queen Anne’s Sports News
Monday 26th June 2017
A round up of the latest sports news from Queen Anne’s in the week commencing Monday 19 June.
Last Sunday a mixed U12/U13 team travelled to Cobham to play in the annual Cobham lacrosse tournament. The standard was really high as they were the only school team playing against club teams. The played really well and went on to win the finals. They were very excited about their win, the medals but most of all the winners cookie!
On Monday Queen Anne’s took three teams of cricketers to the inter schools mini tournament held at Henley Cricket Club.
Despite the sweltering heat and having been only introduced to the sport this summer all 32 girls really took on the challenge. Amy Bartlett in the 6th form kindly helped officiate on the day and the head of women’s and girls’ cricket at Henley Cricket Club, Damaris Hayward ran the event and made all the girls feel very welcome.
The mixed year 7 and 8 team won the Bronze Cup play off and the year 7 team won the Gold Cup play off.
Isla Calver and Claudia Mowatt were both selected by the umpires for awards.
Reading Town Championships – Athletics
Queen Anne’s had three teams entered into the Reading Town Championships on Friday. They had a really successful day with many girls placed in the top 3 for their event.
Zara Obamakinwa broke the championship record for U14 discus which has stood since 1999 and was held by a former Queen Anne’s pupil, Julia Weatherley.
The U13 team placed second overall and the U14 and U16 teams were placed 1st overall.
Well done to all the girls who have competed over the last week and scored points for their teams.
Good luck to everyone in the Inter-House tennis and badminton this week.
