The Queen Anne’s Equestrian Team Excel at the NSEA Championship Plate Qualifier

Monday 5th June 2017

On Wednesday 31 July, those of the equestrian team not in the middle of exams travelled to West Wilts Equestrian Centre to ride in a fiercely competitive NSEA Championship Plate qualifier.

The team consisted of Lucy Goudge on Merlin, Ellie Toms on Chu and Jess Weedon ( who showed great team spirit by stepping into the team out of retirement) on Marni. Unfortunately our team captain, Carrie Hall, was unable to compete due to her horse Murphy being lame.

The team had a shaky start, as due to the numbers entering the competition, they had to ride in the 1m round before the 90cm, which unsettled the riders and horses. However, the Queen Anne’s team managed to show great maturity by regrouping and going into the 90cm round with confidence and determination. With only one fence down between the 3 of the team, the points and times collated were good enough to put the Queen Anne’s team into 5th place and qualify for the NSEA Championship Plate 2017 to be held on the 2 and 3 December.

Jess even managed to qualify as an individual, coming 6th overall, proving that great ground skills can be called upon when required even when retired! A really great effort by the team, and they did themselves and Queen Anne’s very proud!

Well done girls!
