NEW Planning Permission Approved For Sixth Form Centre

Thursday 11th December 2014

Thursday 11 December 2014

We are delighted to announce that we have now received planning permission from Reading City Council Planning Department for our new state-of-the-art Sixth Form Centre, subject to finalising legal agreements. Work for the new Sixth Form Centre will commence some time in the new year and further developments will be available on our website.

Not just a building

In September 2016 we will open a new state-of-the-art Sixth Form Centre.  As a result, we are starting our very own digital learning revolution called #lovelearning and we need you!

With the opening of this iconic building we want to provide you, the pupils, the opportunity to shape your own future and join our #lovelearning campaign

You are the future leaders of our world so we’d like to get started now!  All you need to do is send your ideas via twitter @qascaversham and using the hashtag #lovelearning to tell us what technology we should use in the centre and how you would like to see this aid your learning.  Don’t be afraid to send your wackiest ideas, even those, which have not been invented, yet – remember anything is possible, it starts with an idea!

The pupils who submit the most creative ideas will be invited to join our #lovelearning think tank and become our #lovelearning ambassadors, shaping the way the building is used and designed.

What we do know about the building

The Sixth Form Centre will be an active digital learning zone to enable  students to take advantage of industry standard software and devices and will be the hub for our thriving Sixth Form of 140 girls. This new centre for learning, the plans for which are currently with Reading City Council Planning Department pending approval, will be home to lecture rooms, break out areas, a common room/cafe called Cafe 6, a digital library and a new dining hall.  The upper floor will have learning pods and Harkness learning tables to facilitate collaborative learning experiences and add value to our existing outstanding Sixth Form experience.

Situated in the heart of the campus next to the Library, Performing Arts Centre and Morgan Sports Centre, the ultra-modern building will boast a ground-breaking, environmentally friendly thermal chimney heating system which will require users to open windows to increase the temperature! Designed by Eton-based architects, Lewandowski Willcox, the students have been included in the design and structure of the building.
