Mrs Peachey inspires our girls
Wednesday 16th January 2013
Queen Anne’s programme of Careers Meetings has proven to be highly successful; we would like to extend our thanks to all those who have volunteered their services and eagerly look forward to all the sessions yet to come. So far, the girls have received sessions on chemical engineering, finance and accountancy, law and film. The meetings have provided the girls from U4 to U6 with a great deal of information and food for thought.
On Tuesday 15 March, Mrs Peachey nee Newell provided an inspirational talk that offered considerable insight into her exciting role as a film editor. Mrs Peachey has been involved in the production of numerous films and spoke of her experience during the editing of movies such as ‘Skyfall’, ‘Les Miserables’ and ‘Prometheus’. During her talk, she explained how, in such a highly competitive industry, persistence, dedication and professionalism are paramount, and noted that it is extremely important to stand out from others for the right reasons. She spoke, for example, of one occasion when she came to the rescue of Steven Spielberg, who had broken his glasses. While those around her were dithering, Mrs Peachey made the decision to drive to the nearest opticians and purchase all of the screws for glasses they had in store. As a result of her ingenuity, she was requested to work on Spielberg’s movie, ‘Jurassic Park’. Following her talk, Mrs Peachey helpfully answered and offered valuable advice regarding work experience and where to find useful information.
