Mandarin Students take part in the Speaking Mandarin Competition in London
Wednesday 13th December 2017
On Friday 1 December, the Mandarin students from across the Queen Anne’s School community travelled to the Victory Services Club in London for the Speaking Mandarin Competition. They had the opportunity to qualify for the Final and be in with a chance to win a trip to Beijing.
Our girls competed in both individual and group drama performances. Anne I (4), Molly S (U4) and Beulah W (U6) competed in beginner, intermediate and advanced categories respectively.
The group drama involved Lea B, Niamh M, Emilia M and Abigail H from the L5, Blair F from the U4 and Luisa B from the 4’s. It was written by Abigail H (L5) and was based on a famous Chinese Autumn Festival legend. Emilia M (L5) translated it from English into Mandarin whilst Niamh M (L5) choreographed the dance. Emilia also sang during the performance and did so in Mandarin. The girls were aided in their performance by Ms Benson who produced the music and Mrs Scott who helped the girls practice their dramatic performance.
All of the girls performed exceptionally and due to all their practice and devotion to the competition, their Mandarin skills have dramatically improved.
