A Level Drama Students Amazed by the Royal Shakespeare Company Production of The Tempest
Wednesday 18th January 2017
On 16 January 2017, our U6 drama students accompanied by Mr Punter, Miss Fitzgerald Wragg and Mr Godfrey were blown away by The RSC production of The Tempest in the birthplace of Shakespeare himself, Stratford-upon-Avon.
Whilst it was a trip out of school, it came with great importance as the girls would be writing a live review of the play as part of their A Level drama exam and they were treated to a marvellous performance.
Simon Russell Beale was returning to the RSC after 20 years away to play a powerful and passionate Prospero in the production directed by Gregory Doran. For our girls, it was an eye-opening experience to see the latest and most advanced technology being used in a bold re-imagining of Shakespeare’s magical play.
One of the girl’s commented:
‘It really brought the play to life and to see it done so in the birthplace of Shakespeare was a privilege. I believe that I now have all the necessary first-hand experience to write my live review piece and I could not think of a better play for it to be based upon. The performance of Simon Russell Beale was astounding and the technology used really brought it into the modern day.’
The next performance in Dramaramaland is the L4 Production of ‘Monkey – Journey to the West’ and we look forward to seeing you there.
