“Dr Faustus” inspires our girls
Tuesday 12th February 2013
Scene Theatre Company visited dramaramaland on the 4 February with their touring production of “Dr Faustus” by Christopher Marlowe. The three actors condensed the original play into a fast and furious (should that be “faust” and furious?), energy-packed 60 minutes and took questions from some of the girls during the break.
In the evening the actors worked with the A level girls, leading them through a Masterclass on Commedia dell’Arte. Commedia dell’Arte was a form of theatre which developed in Italy at around the same time that Marlowe wrote “Dr Faustus” in London and, when it eventually reached the UK it morphed into what we now know as pantomime. As always, the group’s leader, Katharine Hurst, said she was extremely impressed with the level of commitment and focus of the girls and she said she “always loved coming to work with the girls from Queen Anne’s”.
