An Historic Week Of Sporting Success
Wednesday 14th October 2015
This past week has been a fantastic one for Queen Anne’s Sport, with several fixture victories and some historic success at County level by our girls.
On Wednesday 7 October, three of our lacrosse teams took part in the Berkshire Schools Tournament. The 1st team and the U15A team played really well to win four of their five matches, both finishing as runners-up. The U14A team went one better, winning all their matches, including a fantastic 5-2 victory over Downe House, to become County Champions. Congratulations to all the players, with a special mention to Pippi Heath, Evie Harris and Livvy Gryce who were commended for some outstanding play.
On Friday 9 October, our U13 team of Olive Richards, Lauren Richmond, Isobel Hughes, Jazmine Veitch, Amber Ingram and Amy McCall, finished runners-up in the county round of the English Schools’ Cross Country Cup, beating several other Berkshire schools, including Park House, The Abbey and Downe House. They have now qualified for the Regional round of this national competition. Emmeline Bolton was our first runner home in the U15 event, finishing in 14th place out of 45 runners; many of whom were a year older.
On Saturday 10 October, our 1st, U16A and U14A Netball teams played in the County Round of the prestigious National Schools’ Competition. The 1st team, without two of their key players, had to change their line up but showed immense determination and team spirit throughout the competition. The U14A team finished runners-up, with some exceptional attacking play by Georgie Kent and Talia Jones. This qualified them for the Regional Finals along with the U16A team who became Berkshire County Champions, making Saturday the most successful day in the history of netball at the school. After a shaky start, they won their pool and then beat Wellington College by one goal in a nail biting final. Congratulations to team captain Georgina Evans, and all her teammates including Alice Oram, Annabel Lovett, Katie Green, Alex Griffin, Bella Bowater, Abby Sloman, Ella Harris and Annabelle Roberts.
